“Sometimes a simple conversation with another participant can make you look at a problem in a completely different way.”

My academic and professional background originally came from a different field, so most of what I have learned about venue management and operations has been through experience: doing things, facing challenges and learning from every event.

That is why going back to theory has been so enriching. The MBT gives me the opportunity to connect what I have learned through practice with new concepts, tools and ways of thinking. It opens up different perspectives and makes me look at my own work in a different way.

When you work in operations, you are often very focused on the day-to-day: solving problems, delivering events and making sure everything works. One of the most valuable things about the programme has been learning to stop and look at what we do from a different perspective. It gives me the opportunity to step back and ask why we do things in a certain way, whether there are other ways of doing them and how we can improve.

The MBT is also helping me to complement practical knowledge with a more structured and strategic way of looking at the organisation. It makes me think about how we can continue improving the way we work as a venue, how we use technology and data, how we manage our teams and how we prepare for the future.

One of the things I value most is learning from the other participants. Being able to share different points of view and understand how other venues work is priceless. We all face similar challenges, but we do not necessarily solve them in the same way. The venues are different in size, structure, market and way of operating, and that diversity is incredibly valuable.

Sometimes a simple conversation with another participant can make you look at a problem in a completely different way. I have learned a lot from the lecturers, but I have also learned a huge amount from the other students and from their experiences.

I would recommend the programme to anyone working in the arena, venue or events industry who wants to keep learning and challenge the way they think about their work. For me, the MBT is about continuing to learn, opening your mind and bringing new ideas back to your everyday work.
